Gardening Tips

Green Onion

Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Provide 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Harvest when the tops are 6-8 inches tall. Plant in rows with seeds spaced 1-2 inches apart, in rich, loose soil.

Mammoth Basil

Thrives in well-draining soil and full sunlight. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Pinch off flowers to encourage leaf growth. Plant seeds or seedlings in warm soil after the last frost, spaced 12 inches apart.

Cilantro

Plant in a cool, shaded area. Water frequently to prevent the soil from drying out. Harvest leaves regularly for the best flavor. Sow seeds directly into the soil, 1-2 inches apart, in early spring or fall.

Lavender

Requires well-draining soil and full sunlight. Water sparingly; lavender prefers drier conditions. Trim yearly to maintain shape. Plant young plants or seeds in sandy soil with good air circulation, 18-24 inches apart.

Peanuts

Plant in sandy soil with good drainage. Provide full sun and water deeply once a week. Harvest when the leaves start to yellow. Sow seeds 1-2 inches deep, 6 inches apart, in rows spaced 3 feet apart.

Butter Lettuce

Keep the soil consistently moist. Provide partial to full sunlight. Harvest leaves as needed for fresh salads. Plant seeds in cool weather, 6 inches apart, in rich, well-draining soil.

Cucumber

Grow in rich, well-draining soil. Ensure at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Water deeply once or twice a week. Plant seeds 1 inch deep, 12 inches apart, near a trellis or support structure.

Sugar Snap Peas

Plant in cool weather. Provide a trellis for support. Water consistently to keep the soil moist. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 2 inches apart, in early spring or fall.

Strawberries

Grow in fertile, well-draining soil. Place in full sunlight. Water at the base of the plants to prevent disease, and harvest when berries are fully red. Plant seedlings 12-18 inches apart in rows 2-3 feet apart.
